Dottie received her Bachelor’s Degree with honors in Public Affairs from Georgia State University in 1993. She was awarded the Outstanding Senior Award in recognition for outstanding academic achievement by the Mortar Board Senior Honor Society. She was one of three students awarded the Georgia State University President’s Plaque for Outstanding Academic Excellence.

In August 2001, she received her Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Eller School at University of Arizona.
Dottie has been a travel consultant, trainer, and instructor for over 25 years. She has served as guest speaker and advisor for various adventure and nature-based tourism summits and organizations for the past nineteen years. Her academic studies and years of experience have allowed her to visit over 20 countries both as a consultant and educator.

In addition to her travels, Dottie also edits textbooks for various publishers.
In 2003, Dottie and her daughter started Katie’s Heart, a non-profit charity dedicated to providing new toys for Southern Arizona kids in hospitals and cancer centers. They also provide stuffed bears for Southwest Ambulance drivers.
Dottie has been a full-time member of the business and tourism faculty since 1995.
